The Marjory Stoneman Douglas soccer teams are having terrific seasons and are both ranked nationally.
The girls team is 6-0-6 this year, ranking 17th in the state and 34th nationally. They had a busy week heading into the holiday break with three games. After playing a 1-1 draw against Spanish River Community High School on Monday, the Eagles outscored their opponents 11-0 following victories over Fort Lauderdale and Charles W. Flanagan High School.
MSD beat Western, Cypress Bay, Coral Glades, and Pembroke Pines Charter earlier this season. The Eagles have also played two or three draws against Palmetto, North Broward Prep, and Lourdes Academy.
MSD has had 11 players score at least one goal this year, led by four from Breanna Gordon and Laina Engelbart. Emma McGregor and Alexa Jourdon each have three goals, while Courtney Heymach, Madison Filsaine, and Allison Ofstein have scored twice. Noemi Scheinkmann, Sam Arias, Breanna McWilliams, and Taylor Le have one.
MSD will be back in action on January 7th against Cooper City High School at 4 p.m. The Cowboys are 9-1-1 this year and rank 59th in the nation.
The boys team is 5-1-1 this year and ranks 41st in Florida and 100th nationally. This week, they recorded a pair of wins, defeating Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale High School, outscoring their opponents 6-1. Their only loss came against Pembroke Pines Charter as they beat Western, Deerfield Beach, Monarch, Coral Glades, and West Broward High School.
MSD has had 12 players score goals this season, with Aquiles Yiribin leading the team with five. Nolan Alba has scored four goals, while Coby Alhadeff has recorded three goals, and Luis Delgado has two. Luca Noreas, Anthony Carnuccio, Jayden Ally, Christian Cubillas, Liam Ulinkski, Elio Guri, Jonah Burke, and Ethan Winter have one.
The Eagles will also play Cooper City High School in their final home game on January 7 at 6 p.m. They are 2-8-2 this year, and their only wins are coming against North Broward Prep and McArthur High School.
