On Oct 11, Grace Dykstra of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls’ soccer team held a soccer clinic at Pine Trails Parks for Heron Heights Elementary students.
“It is important to have an outreach into the community, and I understand that kids can look up to and be so impacted by older kids, “Dykstra said. “It was a great way to have us engage with the little ones through the beautiful game of soccer.”
Dykstra, the vice president of the MSD National Honor Society, reached out to Principal Jennifer McGreey to set up the clinic for service learning hours. Accompanied by the rest of her team and with the help of Head Coach Laura Rountree securing a field, the kids participated in soccer drills and competitions, small-sided scrimmages, a skills demonstration, and a group stretch.
“Each kid really showed their personalities, and I hope to continue to learn more about them along with more kids in my next clinic, seeing as this one was a success with the high school and elementary kids smiling the entire time while playing,” Dykstra added.
She is currently working on holding another clinic before the start of the MSD girls varsity soccer season.
