The Marjory Stoneman Douglas soccer teams began the new year recognizing their seniors on Tuesday night.
The girl’s team handed Cooper City their second loss this season, defeating them 3-0 behind goals from Emily Rodriguez, Alexa Jourdan, and Courtney Heymach. Madysen Filsaime added an assist, while Ella Stevens pitched a shutout in net. The Eagles also recognized Stevens, Sophia Dal Molin, Grace Dykstra, Laina Engelbart, Morgan Melchiorri, Taylor Le, and Emma McGregor.
MSD will play its next game against American Heritage High School on Thursday, January 9, at 6 p.m. The Patriots are 8-1 this year and rank second in the state and fourth in the nation.
The boys’ team won 2-1 and is 9-1-1 this year. Sebastian Mira, Robert Heffner, Nolan Alba, Coby Alhadeff, Shayan Noor, Keanu Nguyen, Elon Jon Saranaga, and Jonah Burke were all recognized.
MSD will play St. Thomas Aquinas High School in their next game on Thursday, January 9, at 6 p.m. The Raiders are 10-4 this year and rank 47th in the state.
