The Marjory Stoneman Douglas boys wrestling team competed for the first time this year at the Coral Springs Charter Duals on Saturday.
The Eagles finished third in their division, competing against Western, Boca Raton, and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. As a team, MSD had their win against St. Thomas Aquinas High School 54-21. However, they fell by one point, 47-36 against Western High School and 47-30 against Boca Raton Community High School.
MSD is led by David Leiva, who finished this in last year’s State Championship, and Rocco Duygulu after he came in sixth last season. Their team also consists of Bryce Sides, Haasini Vattikuti, Arav Shintre, Luis Cardona, Timothy Caroll, Jake Whitmore, Jeremy Lopez, James Messier, Santiago Caro, Enhao Li, Jacob Balk, Reid Kalvaitis, Joshua Lopez, Zach Glaser, Keegan Lake, Ian Liston, Aaron Porudiminsky, Evan Mazzilli, Dante Reynolds, Amirzhan Yedige and Adrian Blanc.
The girls team, which has won three straight District Championships and the BCAA Tournament, wrestled at Hialeah Garden on Thursday. Next, MSD is set to compete for six weeks before the start of the postseason, when the Eagles look to have wrestlers shine in Districts, Regionals, and States.
