The Marjory Stoneman Douglas swim team capped off a spectacular season with both swimmers from the boys and girls teams competing in the State Championship.
Sophia El Chantiry swam in two individual events and placed ninth in the 50-yard freestyle while also placing 13th in the 100-yard butterfly. She was also a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team and placed 10th along with Alexa Anthony, Nikki Harrypersad, and Carly Chin. El Chantiry also swam in the 200-yard freestyle and placed 19th with Anthony, Harrypersad, and Chin.
For the boys, Roman Kondrashov came in 23rd in the 500-yard freestyle as the Eagles dominated the postseason, with the girls’ team winning first place at the District Championship and finishing as runner-up at Regionals. With 36 schools competing at the state, the girls’ team came in 20th.
Sophia finished her fourth state appearance, ending her high school swimming career with a best time of 52.95 as our leadoff swimmer in the 400 freestyle,” head coach Lauraen Rubenstein said. That relay team with Alexa, Nikki, and Carly has been exceptional all year. Roman made states as a Sophomore in the 500 freestyle and we are proud of the times he put up this season and look forward to all he can bring for the team.”
