This is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through September 30, 2024, compiled through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with residents.
Battery
A victim of Battery at Heron Bay was reported on 09/24/2024. The victim stated he had a verbal altercation, which became physical when the Subject shoved him on the chest in front of the Heron Bay clubhouse. The subject gave a conflicting account of what occurred. He stated both parties stood face-to-face, but he did not touch the victim.
Criminal Mischief
Tall Pines was the victim of Criminal Mischief at 8250 NW 62 Drive, reported on 09/24/2024. The caller wanted to report that a white Land Rover entered the community by one of the occupants getting out of the vehicle and lifting the gate arm to gain entry, causing $500.00 damage to the gate.
Domestic Disturbance
A victim of Domestic Disturbance was reported on 09/24/2024. A married couple argued when the male attempted to leave the residence in his pickup truck. His wife followed him to the driveway, and he attempted to leave when she grabbed one of the rearview mirrors. He later claimed he had no idea she was hanging on to his vehicle as he drove off, and she sustained some bruising and road rash on her elbow. She stated there was no intent to harm her and would not allow for a statement of any kind.
Information
Information was reported on 09/25/2024. The reporting person reported that a neighbor complained about their dog barking and is concerned the situation may escalate in the future.
Information was reported on 09/26/2024. A resident advised that her neighbor shoots iguanas in his backyard, which is prohibited within the community. She requested him to stop. The subject was not at home.
This information was reported on 09/26/2024. The reporting person advised that her neighbor yelled profanities at her and tried to intimidate her about her dog barking.
Information was reported on 09/27/2024. The complainant stated that a truck driver ran over his grass, causing damage. He requested that a report be completed. The truck driver said it was accidental and the company would pay for the damages.
Information was reported on 09/29/2024. An adult male wanted to document that his residence was egged the night before.
Lost Property
A victim of Lost Property was reported on 09/25/2024. A purple wallet with her Florida Driver’s License and 90 dollars were lost.
Theft
A victim of Theft – All Other 09/29/2024. The total estimated loss was $1,600. Unknown suspect(s) stole an Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max cellphone from the victim’s front door. The victim advised he received a FedEx package retaped but with no Apple iPhone inside the box. The victim’s Ring doorbell did not capture the incident.
Arrests
Rojas, Luis A., 65, was arrested on a charge of Warrant on 09/30/2024.
