Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate Randy Ruiz capped off a memorable year on the baseball field, celebrating a state championship with the Eagles in May before following it up with a South Florida Collegiate Baseball League championship this summer with Palm Beach Xtreme.
“The feeling to be able to win two championships in one year is something so special to me,” Ruiz said. “I’m just so blessed that I got surrounded by a good group of guys that pushed me to be a better baseball player and a better teammate.”
Ruiz also earned individual recognition following his summer season, being named Rookie of the Year after helping Palm Beach Xtreme capture the championship. He put together an impressive summer at the plate, hitting .386 with a .561 on-base percentage and .523 slugging percentage for a 1.084 OPS. Ruiz recorded 34 hits, drove in 19 runs, scored 35 times and hit two home runs while also stealing 21 bases.
The success continued Ruiz’s impressive stretch, as he has been playing baseball since he was a young child and has competed for several prominent travel programs. He played with 5 Star National on both its 2025 and 2026 national teams and also spent time with Chandler Power Baseball and the Ohio Warhawks.
Ruiz made an immediate impact during his lone season at Marjory Stoneman Douglas. He hit nine home runs, drove in 28 runs and finished with a .303 batting average while helping the Eagles capture another state championship.
He will now begin the next chapter of his baseball career at Tallahassee State College. Ruiz felt that staying a little closer to home and attending a smaller school would provide the right environment for his development both academically and on the baseball field.
