On the same day he announced his commitment to Tallahassee State College, Randy Ruiz delivered a memorable performance at the plate.
The senior slugged two home runs to help the Eagles defeat Doral Academy, the seventh-ranked team in the country. Ruiz said the commitment represents the payoff for years of dedication to the game.
“It feels amazing to commit,” Ruiz said. “Knowing all the years of hard work, practices, and sacrifices paid off makes the moment even more special. It’s something I’ve worked toward my entire life, so finally being able to say I’m going to play at the next level is a dream come true,” He adds that it takes a lot of pressure off his shoulders now that the decision is made.
Ruiz has had a bat in his hands since he was just one year old and has developed into one of the Eagles’ top offensive threats. He has played travel baseball with several prominent programs, including 5 Star National on both the 2025 and 2026 national teams. He also spent time with Chandler Power Baseball and, most recently, the Ohio Warhawks.
Ruiz said each experience helped him grow as a player while competing against some of the top talent in the country. Now in his senior season, he has made an immediate impact on the varsity team. Ruiz currently leads the Eagles with six home runs, is hitting .288 and has driven in 18 runs—five more than any other player on the team.
The Eagles have been one of the most dominant programs in the country, winning five consecutive state championships and four national titles during that stretch. This season, MSD sits at 15–4 and is ranked fifth in the state.
“Playing under Coach Fitz and the rest of the amazing coaching staff has pushed me to become a better player both on and off the field,” Ruiz said. “The program has such a strong culture of discipline, accountability, and hard work. It’s easy to see why it’s considered one of the top high school baseball programs in the country.”
When it came time to choose a college, Ruiz said he was looking for the right fit both academically and athletically.
“Staying a little closer to home and going to a smaller school was important for my development as both a student and a baseball player,” Ruiz said.
