A man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pointing a gun and firing at another driver during a road rage incident in Parkland.
According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Cody Lee Sylvester, 29, of Oakland Park, was taken into custody on July 10 after deputies say he pointed a loaded handgun at another driver while pursuing them through residential neighborhoods and major intersections across the city.
Records show that the encounter began around 8:30 p.m. on July 10, when the victim and his mother were driving along Holmberg Road. They claimed that a Ford F-150, driven by Sylvester, began tailgating them aggressively, flashing its high beams, and yelling at the pair as they turned onto University Drive.
Thinking the confrontation had ended, the victim later left home in his own car. But just before 9 p.m., he noticed the same white pickup reappear – this time inside the gated community. The victim said his mother warned him by phone, and he attempted to flee, but Sylvester allegedly pulled up alongside him at Hillsboro Boulevard and Nob Hill Road, threatened to kill him, and then gave chase once again.
The situation took a dangerous turn when the victim reported hearing two gunshots as he sped toward University Drive. Moments later, he said Sylvester pulled up beside him again, this time pointing at him what appeared to be a black 9mm handgun.
Deputies soon located Sylvester parked near a bridge on Loxahatchee Road. Sylvester, who matched the victim’s description, admitted to owning the truck and was detained on the scene. The victim later positively identified Sylvester in a show-up.
A search warrant was executed, which led officers to recover a black handgun that matched the victim’s description of the weapon used.
Sylvester was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $2,500 bond.
