Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ Head Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald can add another accolade to his trophy case, winning the BCAA North County Coach of the Year.
Fitz-Gerald, who has won four State Championships in his high school coaching career, including three with MSD, has led the Eagles to another historic season where they went a perfect 22-0 in the regular season and rank second in the nation.
All eight seniors on MSD are signed to play college baseball, including three players heading to Power-5 schools. He also has nearly ten underclassmen, all committed. Offensively, MSD is hitting over .325 with 21 home runs, and 162 runs scored, while the pitching staff has an ERA under 1.00.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized but the award goes to the entire program,” Fitz Gerald said. “It takes a village to run this organization from our administration to the booster club coaches, parents and players. We are all in this together. My coaches are the best around. I’m so thankful to have such a remarkable staff. Not only are they great coaches and mentors, but they are great friends.”
The Eagles will start as the top seed in the District, have a bye in the opening round of the District Championship, and face the Monarch and Spanish River Community High School, winner. Boca Raton Community High School also has a bye as the two seed and will play the winner of Coral Springs High School and Olympic Heights.
