Two more candidates have announced runs for Parkland City Commission seats in the 2024 election.
Golden E. Johansson, Chief Operating Officer at the Berman Law Group, and Neil Kanterman, a pediatric ophthalmologist, are running to fill Commission Seat Four. The public office is currently held by Bob Mayersohn, who is term-limited heading into the Nov. 5 election.
Robert Brannen had previously announced his candidacy for the seat but has since withdrawn, city records show.
As previously reported by Parkland Talk, two candidates have also announced runs for Commission Seat Three: Howard Berger and Cynthia Murphy-Salomone. The seat is currently held by Commissioner Ken Cutler. Cutler is also term-limited.
Parkland Talk asked the newly announced candidates, Johansson and Kanterman, for biographical information. The information below is drawn from their responses.
Johansson is a community leader with a long history of serving the city, having served on the city’s education advisory board, community advisory board, and charter review board. Her professional roles have included working with the Seminole Tribe and on various government contracts.
According to Johansson, she was instrumental in revitalizing the Parkland Chamber of Commerce and created its first business leads group. She said she has received several awards and acknowledgments for her work in the business community, including a Small Business of the Year award through the Fort Lauderdale Chamber and being named among the 100 Outstanding Women in Broward County through the Girl Scouts.
Kanterman, a medical doctor, is a dedicated pediatric ophthalmologist who said he has devoted his career to serving the community’s children for almost two decades.
A Miller School of Medicine graduate at the University of Miami, Kanterman joined a pediatric ophthalmology practice in Broward County that aims to help grant children the gift of sight.
Kanterman said he is a fervent advocate for fitness. Together with his wife, Andrea, he said he co-owns Parkland’s exclusive CrossFit facility. He also volunteers as a weightlifting coach for varying age groups serves on the Florida Weightlifting State Organization, and is an international technical official in the sport.
