A woman has been charged with child neglect after authorities say she intentionally crashed her SUV into a tree in an attempt to take her own life while her young daughter was inside the vehicle.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office report, deputies responded around 1:00 a.m. on May 7 to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hillsboro Boulevard and Everglades Way North, near the entrance to The Falls community.
Upon arrival, deputies found a vehicle with significant front-end damage and deployed airbags wrapped around a tree at the north entrance of the neighborhood.
While investigating the scene, deputies were flagged down by a 29-year-old West Palm Beach woman, whose name Parkland Talk has redacted. She was found walking barefoot through The Falls community with her young daughter. Neither appeared to have suffered physical injuries.
When questioned about the crash, she allegedly told deputies, “I tried killing myself,” and confirmed that her daughter was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Investigators determined that she had intentionally crashed the vehicle, placing her child in danger of serious injury or death.
She was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where she was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
The report does not indicate the child’s age or who took custody of the child following the incident.
