Marjory Stoneman Douglas officially has a pair of State Champions announcing their commitment to Daytona State College with Abraham Halaoui and Matthew Toback.
Halaoui calls it joy, and it makes him happy knowing his hard work has paid off.
“When I first stepped onto campus for my visit, right away I could see myself attending Daytona State, and it really felt like home,” Halauiu said. “The coaches were great, and after getting to know them more, I realized this is the place I could see myself at.”
Halaoui began playing baseball at the age of 10 and immediately fell in love with the sport. He has competed for the Predators, Pokers, and X Team for the last wingers while also playing in 19 games for the varsity baseball team a season ago.
Halaoui had a double along with five RBIs while his team went 31-2 to secure their fifth straight State Championship and fourth National Title in five years.
“Playing for MSD really made me a better person and showed me that nothing in life is given and you have to work for it,” Halaoui added. “The competition and level of play at Stoneman Douglas really developed me as a player and made me who I am today.
Halaoui also says it feels amazing to play with Toback for one more year of high school and in college, as the two have known each other for years.
Toback calls it exciting to commit and be able to continue the sport beyond high school.
When I first stepped onto campus for my visit, right away I knew I could see myself attending Daytona State College, and after meeting the coaching staff and getting to know them more, I knew that that was the place for me,” Toback said.
Toback began playing baseball when he was five and played with the Parkland Pokers, X Team, and TBT. He had a home run and 12 RBIs in 19 games with MSD.
“Playing for MSD baseball was probably one of the best things that had happened to me, just the whole culture, environment, and the coaching staff has made me better on and off the field these last four years in numerous ways.”
These two players will have one more year left on their varsity before joining a team that won 14 games a season ago. They recently named Brock Moss as their new head coach for this summer.
