6 More Marjory Stoneman Douglas Graduates Announce College Pick

Six more former Marjory Stoneman Douglas state champions are set for new stops in their college baseball careers, as Christian Rodriguez, Jacob Gomberg, Drew Freeman, Bennett Gary, Ethan Askin and David Goldapper all made their picks.

Rodriguez, a 2023 graduate, is transferring to Florida International University after spending two seasons at the University of Florida. One of the nation’s top high school pitchers, Rodriguez helped lead the Eagles to three state championships and three national titles. He finished his high school career with a 29-2 record, a 1.19 ERA, 310 strikeouts in 168.2 innings, and also won a gold medal with Team USA. After missing his freshman season with an injury, he made 25 appearances for the Gators over the past two years.

Gomberg, also a 2023 graduate, is headed to Indiana University. He won state championships at both North Broward Prep and Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Despite missing his senior year with injury, Gomberg was part of the State and National Championship teams before signing with Rodriguez at the University of Florida. After transferring to UNLV, the left-hander recorded three saves and struck out 21 batters in 17 innings during the 2026 season.

Freeman, a 2025 graduate, is transferring to Coastal Carolina University after one season at Louisville. A two-time state champion and member of the Eagles’ 2024 national championship team, Freeman hit .387 with two home runs and 31 RBIs during his senior season. He also collected his first collegiate home run and an RBI double during his freshman campaign with the Cardinals.

Gary is transferring to Charleston University after spending his freshman season at the University of Miami. The former Marjory Stoneman Douglas standout homered twice and drove in 17 runs as a junior before hitting four home runs and recording 18 RBIs during his senior season. As a freshman with the Hurricanes, Gary appeared in 11 games, collecting both of his hits against Lafayette University, including his first collegiate home run.

Askin is also a 2025 graduate and will play at Florida Tech after spending two years on varsity. He played in 18 games as a senior, knocking in eight runs and recording two doubles as a catcher. He played his freshman season at Eastern Florida State College and impressed, hitting .390 with 17 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Goldapper played his senior season with the Eagles in 2024. The left-hander is set to attend Eastern Michigan University after spending this past season at LSU Eunice. He made eight appearances for the Bengals, earning one victory while helping the team to a 47-13 record
