At Wednesday’s city commission meeting, several Parkland students took home awards or scholarships for their hard work in high school.
Community Advisory Board Scholarships
The City of Parkland offered scholarships to students who, in addition to meeting academic requirements, demonstrated an exceptional commitment to community service. Funded with proceeds from the Parkland Dash, the three recipients were selected by the Community Advisory Board.
Briya Patel – $400 scholarship
Patel attends American Heritage in Plantation and is the vice president of competition for the Health Occupations Students of America. She is in the Science National Honor Society, the English Honor Society, and the Scientific Research Honor Society. She was a volunteer at the Cleveland Clinic and the Parkland Library. She has been accepted to the University of Miami and remains hopeful about Princeton and Columbia.
Samantha Husar – $600 scholarship
Husar attends the College Academy at Broward College. She has been on the President’s List three times and won the Einstein Award for best essay. She plans to major in psychology and has been accepted to Florida State University, the University of Florida, and UCF.
Brett Lickerman – $1,000 scholarship
A senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Lickerman is involved in DECA, the investment club, and runs track. He has volunteered for Parkland Buddy Sports and the Run for Beigel. He’s co-founder of the first MSD chapter of the National Technical Honor Society and plans to pursue industrial engineering at Northwestern University.

Engineering Scholarship
Jennifer Quercioli – $3,000 scholarship
The City of Parkland, Unger Engineering Services, and Winningham and Fradley Inc. selected Quercioli as the recipient of the 2021 Engineering Scholarship.
Quercioli, a senior at MSD, is a member of the robotics club, National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and the National Technological Honor Society. She will be pursuing a degree in civil engineering and has been accepted to several schools, including Purdue University. She is also
Allstate Foundation Scholarship Recipient Jude Lenamon with the city commission.
Allstate Foundation Scholarships
The Allstate Foundation Scholarship provides financial assistance for students who share the interests and passions of the students killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas on February 14, 2018.
Joshua Erched – $500 scholarship
Erched is the Key Club President, class vice president, and is in the National Honor Society. He is involved in DECA and track and field and will be pursuing a molecular engineering and engineering physics degree at Cornell University.
Jude Lenamon – $500 scholarship
Lenamon is involved with the Broward Sheriff’s Office training exercises, JROTC, music, and hockey. He plans to pursue political science and has been accepted to several colleges, including Florida State University. After college, he wants to enlist in the Navy.
