Westglades Middle School girls and boys golf teams took first in the Middle School Athletic Association’s (MSAA) County Championship on May 24.
Sixth-graders Elisa Hernandez and Ella Thompson and seventh-grader Sophie Alcala-Marks represented the girl’s team. Hernandez swiped Overall Individual Champion for the girls shooting a 39 and a team score of an incredible 150.
The boy’s team included eight-graders Carson Meredith and Noah Wilson, seventh-graders Brody Kefford and Samkit Bothra, and sixth-grader Cristian Scradeneau. Meredith finished third overall, shooting a 39 and a team score of 167.
“It’s incredible that coach Battaglia was able to get these talented kids together and practice enough that both girls and boys took first place in the championship,” said Samantha Marks, mother to Sophie Alcala-Marks. “Coach Battaglia and the kids did awesomely and had a great time.”
This was the fourth consecutive year the boy’s team came in first in the MSAA County Championship.
