Marjory Stoneman Douglas basketball head coach Teddy Lyons is officially stepping down from his position.
Lyons has been the coach of the Eagles for four years and could not be more thankful for the administration, his family, players, and coaches Jason Sucarichi, Stefan Whittingham, Rafi Wynn, Shuane Cannon, and Connally Berry.
“From day one, I worked to build a culture around hard work and sacrifice,” Lyons said. “I feel we got better each year, and I am proud of the work we’ve done here. I’m grateful for every negative and positive situation I went through here, on and off the court. I learned a lot about myself coaching here.”
During Lyons’ tenure, MSD won 47 games, including 37 in the past two seasons. He has also helped guide a pair of former players to the next level, Sean Sucarichi and Josh Ruiz. The Eagles went 19-8 this season and advanced to Regionals, while both Damerius Summers and Jhalen Phang are set to compete in the Sixth Annual Sunshine State Premier Senior Games in Fort Lauderdale.
Lyons says he has not decided on where he wants to coach next.
“There are a lot of options, including sitting out to spend more time with my family, “Lyons added. “It will all work itself out the way it’s supposed to.”
