Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls lacrosse superstar Taylor McGovern is officially committed to playing college lacrosse at Lee University in Tennessee.
“When I committed, it didn’t feel real at first,” McGovern said. “I still haven’t fully processed that I know where I’m going after high school; it definitely takes a little bit of stress away. I am so happy with my decision and cannot wait for the next four years. I am so excited.”
McGovern got into lacrosse in high school after her parents signed her up. Her first team was the Coral Springs Chiefs, and she immediately fell in love with the sport. That team transitioned to the Parkland Red Hawks and began playing travel lacrosse with the Madskillz in third grade.

McGovern has been on the varsity lacrosse team at MSD for three years and has scored 145 goals in 44 games, including 79 as a junior. She also ranked ninth in the nation with 76 assists and has 151 in her career while the team has won 31 games at a school that has helped her grow as a student-athlete. This past year, McGovern was named to the USA Lacrosse All-American Team.
“When I found out about Taylor’s commitment, I was incredibly happy for her,” Head Coach Scott Iardella said. “The recruitment process can be a grueling process, but I’m a big believer that every athlete lands where they’re meant to be. Her hard work and patience paid off. I’m thrilled for her.”
For college, McGovern always knew she wanted to play college lacrosse, but she felt that she wanted to attend a mid-size school that fit her major in Sports Medicine/ Physical Therapy.
“When I toured Lee, I immediately fell in love with the school, campus, and area,” McGovern said. “It was everything I wanted in a school, and I felt at home with the entire team.”
When she is not on the field, McGovern works at Chicken Salad Chick, is an officer at the Sports Media Club at MSD, and volunteers with the Parkland Red Hawks. While she still has one more year left before going to school, McGovern hopes to grow and learn through each of her experiences.
“I look forward to continuing to work hard and be a team player with the highest level of integrity on and off the field.”
Lee University is coming off a season where they went 8-10.
