Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, made his second appearance in the World Series and made his first trip with the New York Yankees.
After winning a World Series with the Chicago Cubs, Rizzo missed some of the 2024 season with an injury. However, he still hit nine home runs, including the 300th of his career. He returned in the American League Championship Series and helped the Yankees defeat the Cleveland Guardians before falling five games during the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“It’s heartbreaking for this group because how close you have to come as a brotherhood to get to this point, Rizzo said postgame. “To wear this jersey is something special that I wish every baseball player gets to feel, because it’s a different feeling wearing this jersey. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Rizzo hit .267 in 30 at-bats and also had six walks. He completed his second-year contract with the Yankees and has a club option for the 2025 season. Rizzo will return to Parkland on November 24 for the 13th Annual Walk for Cancer Event at Pine Trails Park.
