In a celebration of his leadership and dedication, the Broward League of Cities has awarded Parkland Commissioner Bob Mayersohn the 2024 Samuel S. Goren Presidential Award.
This accolade, the highest leadership award the League gives, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and contribution to the organization and its members.
The award was presented to Mayersohn at the League’s 67th Annual Gala by Goren and City of Deerfield Beach Commissioner Todd Drosky, the outgoing League president. The presentation highlighted Mayersohn’s dedication to the League and commended his respect, knowledge, empathy, and strong belief in the significance of holding office.
Mayersohn expressed his gratitude for the recognition and said it was truly about having the good fortune to work alongside some incredible people throughout his tenure with the Broward League of Cities.
“It is sometimes challenging to build a united front, but by embracing each of our 31 cities, we have been able to accomplish some great things for all the residents of Broward County,” he said, adding. “This leadership award will hold a special place in my heart as it reinforces the commitment that the Broward League of Cities has in making a positive impact not only in the City of Parkland, but also in Broward County, and beyond.”
Mayersohn’s influence extends beyond the League. He also serves on the Florida League of Cities Board of Directors and chairs the Federal Actions Strike Team (FAST) Committee. He served as its president from 2023 to 2024. Earlier this year, he was honored with the 2024 Home Rule Hero Award for the fifth consecutive year, celebrating his efforts to advance the League’s legislative agenda and protect the home rule powers of Florida’s cities during the 2024 legislative session.
In 2017, the League renamed the Presidential Award after Goren. In 1986, he was the first lawyer from Broward County to receive the Florida Bar Association’s annual award for outstanding practice in local government. He has served as general counsel to the Broward League of Cities for over 30 years.
Mayersohn has served as a city commissioner since 2016 and is termed out this November.
