A report of a bomb threat prompted a law enforcement response at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on the first day of school Monday, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Around 8:30 a.m., BSO deputies assigned to Parkland responded to the high school following a report of a bomb threat, the agency said.
Deputies and detectives with BSO’s Threat Management Unit were actively investigating the incident as of Monday morning. They later cleared the scene.
The school was placed on “Hold” status during the response. BSO later said the hold had been lifted.
Typically, a school in hold status locks all interior and exterior doors. Students and staff must stay inside their current classrooms or rooms. Though classes typically continue as normal inside classrooms during a hold, no one is allowed to leave or enter the school until officials lift the hold.
Authorities did not immediately release information about the nature or origin of the reported bomb threat, whether a suspect had been identified, or whether investigators determined the threat to be credible.
BSO said additional information would be released when possible.
