Only days after announcing his retirement from professional baseball, former Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate and all-star baseball player Anthony Rizzo was honored by the Chicago Cubs.
“I am so happy to be home,” Rizzo said. “I got drafted by the Red Sox. I go through my own struggle, and there are so many people along the way that helped me, and grateful to be in this spot back at Wrigley.”
Rizzo threw out the ceremonial first pitch and went on to sit in the bleachers during the Cubs game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He spent 14 years in the MLB, starting with the San Diego Padres. Rizzo went on to play a decade in Chicago and helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series before making one last appearance in the World Series with the New York Yankees in 2024. He is set to remain in the Cubs organization and work as an ambassador.
