Dream Realized: Joshua Jakubowitz of Marjory Stoneman Douglas Commits to Samford

Marjory Stoneman Douglas added another college commitment from its talented 2027 class as Joshua Jakubowicz announced his commitment to Samford University in Alabama.

For Jakubowicz, the decision represents the fulfillment of a dream years in the making.

“There were a lot of early mornings, late nights, and sacrifices along the way, so finally seeing that hard work pay off is an incredible feeling,”Jakubowicz said. “It’s exciting, but it also motivates me even more because I know the work is just getting started.”

Jakubowicz began playing baseball at age 4 and grew up a multi-sport athlete. He played basketball through his sophomore season before deciding to focus solely on baseball after earning the opportunity to compete for the Original Florida Pokers.

This past season, Jakubowicz helped the Eagles capture their sixth consecutive state championship. He appeared in five games, made two starts and earned a victory over Doral Academy.

Jakubowicz said playing at Marjory Stoneman Douglas has been an honor, crediting the program’s championship tradition, talented teammates and coaching staff for helping him develop both on and off the field. With one season still ahead. He is focused on helping the Eagles pursue a seventh straight state championship.

“We’ve had a lot of success, but knowing I still have one more year is really exciting because there’s still more we want to accomplish,”Jakubowicz said. “I want to help lead the team, compete for another title and leave the program even better than I found it. I also want to keep the standard high and be as good of an example as previous stars who have come out of Douglas.”

Jakubowicz said Samford felt like the perfect fit because of its coaching staff, player development and family atmosphere. He also felt comfortable on campus and believes the program provides the ideal environment to continue growing as both a player and a person.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 31-25 season and have reached the NCAA Tournament four times, most recently in 2023. Samford competes in the Southern Conference and has produced 39 MLB Draft selections.
