Marjory Stoneman Douglas flag football is now only four wins away from a State Championship after beating Coral Springs High School in the Regional Quarterfinal on Thursday.
The Eagles fell behind 8-0 but responded to win 20-14 behind two touchdown passes from Samantha Calvetta to Kenslee Ward. Courtney Heymach also scored, while Ward finished with four sacks, including one to end the game.
“Incredible win for the Lady Eagles we kept our composure and put it together on both sides of the ball”, Head Coach Chris Baldwin said. “ Great team win. The support from our parents and students was awesome.”
The Eagles also improved to 13-1 in a year when they won their first District Championship since 2010. Next, MSD will play second-seeded Wellington High School in the semifinals on Tuesday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m.
The Wolverines are 11-3 this year but lost in the District Championship game against Seminole Ridge. However, they beat Deerfield Beach in their opening regional playoff game.
