Six-Time State Champions Marjory Stoneman Douglas Honored Prior to Miami Marlins Game

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team was recognized for their success prior to the Miami Marlins’ game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles recently capped off a historic sixth straight State Championship and have now gone 146–12 over the last six years. They have also won four National Championships and finished the 2026 season as the fifth-best team in the country.

Led by a potential top-ten pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, Gio Rojas was the ace of a pitching staff that posted an ERA of 2.81 this year. Rojas went 11-1 and had an ERA of .58 while Reid Dadic had five wins and Tyler Stertzbach had three, including the State Semifinals against Hagerty High School.

Offensively, the Eagles hit .300 with 37 home runs. Randy Ruiz was the team leader with nine and also led the team in RBIs with 28. Jake Rizzo added six while Rojas had five. In total, 12 different players homered, with Lorenzo Laurel, Jackson Taylor, and Dadic all recording three.

The season didn’t come without adversity as the Eagles were without their coach, Todd Fitz-Gerald, for part of the season, supporting his wife following her brain cancer diagnosis. He did not travel to Las Vegas for the Bishop Gorman High School Invitational, which also featured a key injury and illness.

However, MSD started to hit their stride as the postseason approached, winning their final four games of the regular season. The Eagles outscored their opponents 9-0 during the District Tournament before beating Coral Gables and sweeping Southwest High School to start Regionals.

MSD had their only playoff loss come against West Broward High School, but won the series in three games and then knocked off Hagerty High School following a walk-off hit from Jackson Taylor in the State Semifinals. The finals featured MSD saving Rojas for Venice High School, and it paid off as MSD won 2-1, with Rojas recording 20 of the 21 outs. Ben Bianchi got the final out with a strikeout for the title.
