The Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls soccer team is officially Regional Champions following their 2-1 win over Cypress Bay High School on Wednesday.
After losing to the Lightning in the postseason the last three years, including the Regional Final the previous two years, the Eagles broke through with their 15th win of the season and are now two wins away from a State Championship.
Emily Rodriguez scored the opening goal before Grace Dykstra doubled the lead, scoring on a penalty kick to make it 2-0. Cypress Bay cut the lead to one, but the Eagles held on for the win.
“I am super proud of the girls effort tonight,” Head Coach Laura Rountree said. “They fought hard, and it was a great team win.”
MSD will compete in the State Semifinals for the first time since 2020, when they lost 2-1 against Cypress Bay. The Eagles will play Creekside High School in their next game on February 29 at 1 p.m .
