The Marjory Stoneman Douglas track and field team produced three District Championships during their meet at South Plantation High School on April 16.
The boys team finished in seventh place overall while Christopher Jackson took first in the long jump and triple jump. Kyle Campbell came in fourth place, and Matthew Rosenberg, Jonathan Rodriguez, Carson Meredith, and the 4 x 800 relay team of Sergio Lozano, Calyx Olsen, Isaac Reyes, and Carson Meredith came in fifth place.
The Eagles also got points from Austin Khayyami after pacing seventh in the long jump, while Rodriguez also came in seventh in the triple jump. Avi Gabbay also placed eighth in the high jump.
The girls team came in fifth place, with the girls’ 4 x 100 relay team coming in first place with Samanta Bandres Chourio, Alexis Freckleton, Naomi Grissette, and Samara Osouna. The 4 x 800 relay team of Olympia Koumoutsakis, Sparta Koumoutsakis, Cecilia Gago, and Mia Fernandez came in third, while Emiliana Anzures, Isabella Bayarri, Freckleton, and Bandres Chourio finished fourth.
Individually, Bandres Chourio shined, coming in second in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 400 hurdles. Anzured recorded a third-place finish in the 1600 meters and a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters. Taylor Strauss was the other Eagle to place fourth while Grissette, Zengotita, and Frexkelton all recorded points.
The Eagles also feature a strong senior class with Trisanu Burchell, Jacob Denvey, Tariq Gibbs, Bryson Gittens, Jackson, Justin Jaimes, Joshia Jaimes, Carson Meredith, Calyx Olsen, Noah Seid, Connor Stallings, Sahil Sule, and Xavier Velez from the boys team and Kennedy Coleman, Thatiyana Drouillard, Grissette, Samanta Landeta, Osouna, Mikayla Ryan, Giann Sands, Angelina Sibila, and Strauss from the girls team.
MSD will prepare to compete in Regionals next month, potentially followed by the State Championship.
