Dr. Barry Herbert Dubner
A Parkland man died Wednesday morning after falling down a steep embankment while hiking along the Glen Burney Trail in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, police said.
Authorities said Barry Herbert Dubner, 66, who records show lived in Parkland’s Four Seasons community, fell to his death shortly before 9 a.m. on July 30 in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
First responders from the Blowing Rock Police Department, Blowing Rock Fire Department, and local medics were dispatched to the scene following a report of a fall.
When they arrived, crews located Dubner down a steep slope off the trail. Despite efforts to reach and rescue him, Dubner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials offered condolences to Dubner’s family, calling the death a tragic loss.
Dubner, a dermatologist, was mourned by colleagues at University of Miami’s Dr. Phillip Frost Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, where he had previously taught.
“Over the course of 40 years until his recent retirement, he provided exceptional care and helped his practice grow into one of the most preeminent and largest practices in South Florida,” the department said in a social media post Friday.
Officials said Dubner had a large practice in Coral Springs and served as the membership chair of the Miami Dermatology Society. He was also a member of several other medical and dermatologic societies.
He is survived by his wife Barb; daughter Brooke; son Brandon; and daughter-in-law Talia, according to UM.
A funeral service will be held at Congregation Kol Tikvah in Parkland at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, followed by a service at the cemetery for the immediate family.
The family will be observing shiva at the Dubner home, UM officials said.
