Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s Drama Troupe 4879 has been awarded the honor of performing SIX: The Musical Teen Edition on the Florida State Thespians Mainstage.
The club will perform two performances at the Tampa Theatre on Wednesday, March 19, at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. during the annual State competition, held from March 18-22.
SIX: The Musical Teen Edition is a youth-friendly adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway sensation SIX. This version brings the high-energy, pop-infused storytelling of the original to young performers and audiences.
According to MSD Drama Teacher Melody Herzfeld, the announcement of their Mainstage selection came following their showcase performances, where students were handed an envelope revealing the exciting news.
“The students were handed an envelope and burst into screams on realizing the significance of performing on State’s main stage,” Herzfeld tells Parkland Talk.
Herzfeld says the cheers and screams that erupted as students realized the magnitude of this recognition are a testament to their hard work, creativity, and dedication to the craft.
Herzfeld also shares that the Drama Troupe’s success extends beyond the Mainstage honor. They recently excelled at the Drama District competition, earning six Critics’ Choice awards—many of them for student-led performances and costume design.
As Douglas Drama prepares to take their talents to State, they’re open to sponsorship grants for students seeking to support their journey. Registration for the event is $176 per child, which does not include food. Donations to the club can be made here.
