MSD Graduates Gio Rojas and Rylan Lujo Sign Professional Contracts After MLB Draft

After hearing their names called in the MLB Draft, former Marjory Stoneman Douglas standouts Gio Rojas and Rylan Lujo have officially turned professional after signing contracts with their respective organizations.

Rojas, a 2026 graduate, was selected by the Texas Rangers with the 16th overall pick and signed for $4.6 million, becoming the first high school pitcher chosen in the 2026 MLB Draft. He was also the only high school pitcher selected in the first round, as every other first-round pitcher came from the collegiate ranks.

Rojas capped off a dominant high school career with a remarkable 28-1 record and a 0.65 ERA. He struck out 285 batters in 182 innings while helping lead the Eagles to three state championships and one national championship.

Lujo, a 2024 graduate, enjoyed one of the most decorated careers in program history, winning four consecutive state championships and three national championships with Marjory Stoneman Douglas. He was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round with the 109th overall pick, signing for$718,700.

Lujo hit over .400 in each of his final two high school seasons, including a .453 batting average as a senior. During that span, he blasted 10 home runs and finished his high school career with 85 RBIs.

He began his collegiate career at the University of Dayton, where he earned Freshman All-American honors after batting .361 with nine home runs and 56 RBIs. Lujo then transferred to the University of Georgia and continued his success, batting .357 with 14 home runs and 49 RBIs while helping the Bulldogs win the SEC Tournament Championship and advance to the College World Series before beginning his professional career.
