The Marjory Stoneman Douglas softball team may have only two seniors this season with both of them making an impact in a 19-4 win over J.P. Taravella on Monday night.
Myah Boleen, who was honored alongside fellow senior Micaela Johnston, announced her commitment to Bossier Parish Community College in Louisiana, marking a significant step in her softball journey.
“I think being able to play at the next level past high school is such an accomplishment for me, and I am so blessed to have the opportunity that I do,” Boleen said.
Boleen began playing softball at the age of eight with the Coral Springs Panthers, then continued her development with the Diamond Dusters. She also gained experience on the travel circuit with the Stingrays and Intensity National, helping shape her into a college-level player.
When it came time to choose a school, Boleen focused on finding the right fit beyond just softball.
“For college, I wanted to find a school that felt like home and somewhere where I felt wanted not only as a player but as a person,” Boleen said. “After stepping on campus and meeting with the coaches, I knew it was the right place for me.”
A four-year player at MSD, Boleen made an impact again on Senior Night, even making her first career appearance on the mound. Johnson earned the win in the victory over J.P. Taravella and followed it up with a four-hit performance against West Boca Raton, including a home run and six RBIs. She is now hitting over .370 in her career. After hitting two home runs during her sophomore season, she already has three more through the first 11 games of her senior year. She has also driven in 70 runs in her career while helping the Eagles win 53 games during her tenure.
“I have learned so much from my coaches and from building myself mentally and physically,” Boleen added. “I want to improve my game all around before I go off to college.”
Johnston has shined this year, pitching to an era of 2.33. She was the winning pitching on senior night and has made six appearances on the mound. Johnston began playing softball when she was 11 and has been with MSD for all four years of high school. She is scheduled to play travel this summer with Wagner’s 18 U Malicki.
The Eagles are currently 10-5 and will return to action against Monarch High School on Wednesday, April 8, at 5 p.m.
