The much-anticipated Parkland Running Buddies event is just around the corner, promising a day packed with fun-filled activities for individuals with special needs.
Organized by Parkland Buddy Sports, the Running Buddies program is set for Sunday, October 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Terramar Park.
This eight-week program, which is free to attend, takes place on Sundays and is designed to foster a supportive community for special needs children aged four and above, alongside dedicated student volunteers.
The event offers a variety of running-related activities, including stretching, dancing, warm-up runs, long-distance runs, and music-based running drills—ensuring that every participant has a blast while staying active.
Volunteers interested in contributing to this rewarding cause are asked to arrive at the pavilion at Terramar Park (6700 W. Hillsboro Blvd.) by 9:45 a.m. Participants, including special needs “buddies” and their student volunteers, are encouraged to be ready by 10:15 a.m. for a timely start.
In addition to Opening Day, Running Buddies will take place on October 13, October 27, and several Sundays throughout November, with sessions scheduled for November 3, 10, 17, and 24.
The program will also feature a special “Turkey Trot” event on Thanksgiving Day in Tamarac.
Since its inception in 2002, Parkland Buddy Sports has been dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for children and young adults with special needs.
High school students looking to earn service hours toward graduation are encouraged to volunteer for the program.
