The Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Parkland responded to various incidents between December 16 and 22, 2025. Below is a detailed account of the incidents and arrests handled by local law enforcement.
Incidents
Vehicle Fire (Non-Arson)
On Dec. 16 at approximately 5:36 p.m., deputies responded to a residential garage in Parkland after a vehicle caught fire. The reporting party said the Hyundai Santa Fe had just been returned from a dealership following repairs. After pulling into the garage, smoke and a burning smell were noticed, prompting the evacuation of the home. The vehicle ignited shortly afterward. Fire Rescue responded, and a Coral Springs Fire inspector determined the fire was not arson.
Harassing Communications Reported
On Dec. 16 around 8:10 p.m., a Parkland resident reported receiving harassing phone calls and text messages from a sibling who lives in Maryland. The incident was documented for informational purposes.
Child Welfare Concern
Late on Dec. 16, deputies responded after a mother reported concern for her adult daughter, who had fallen asleep in a driveway for several hours with a 4-year-old child in the vehicle and no car seat. Contact was made with the daughter, who was found to be fine. A car seat was later provided, and the children were taken to the grandmother’s home for the night.
Baker Act Involving Juvenile
On Dec. 17, deputies responded to a Parkland residence after a juvenile expressed suicidal thoughts and had self-inflicted injuries using fingernails and household items. The juvenile was transported to Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health for treatment under the Baker Act.
Residential Burglary (Delayed Report)
A Parkland resident reported on Dec. 18 that a dolly was taken from an open garage sometime between Dec. 14 and Dec. 17. No damage was reported, and the estimated loss was $80. The investigation remains ongoing.
Noise Complaint / Ordinance Violation
On Dec. 17, a resident reported loud music coming from a neighboring property. The reporting party provided decibel readings from a phone app, which were uploaded to evidence.com.
Suspicious Photography at Park
On Dec. 18, a Parkland resident reported that an unknown individual was photographing children during a homeschool group visit at Terramar Park. The incident was documented as informational.
Suspicious Vehicle at Synagogue
On Dec. 18, deputies responded to Congregation Kol Tikvah after a vehicle occupant was seen photographing the property. The investigation determined the individual was a local resident interested in purchasing nearby property. No crime occurred.
Domestic Disturbances (Non-Criminal)
Multiple domestic disturbances were reported between Dec. 19 and Dec. 21 involving custody exchanges and family arguments. In each case, no crime was determined, and parties separated without incident.
Assault During Missing Juvenile Call
On Dec. 21, a call initially reported as a missing juvenile was later resolved. While deputies were on scene, the juvenile’s father assaulted an adult male in the presence of law enforcement. The victim declined to press charges.
Delayed Credit Card Fraud
A Parkland resident reported discovering fraudulent credit card activity after noticing a drop in his credit score. An additional credit card account was found to have been opened using his information. The estimated loss was minimal, and the victim was advised to file an IC3 report.
Arrests
Battery (Domestic Violence)
Samuel Kohl, 30, of Parkland, was arrested on Dec. 21 and charged with battery-touch or strike following a domestic battery investigation. He was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
