Summer Storm FFC, a private club girls flag football summer program from Parkland, continues to impress in the summer circuit, winning a Championship at the 3rd Annual St. Thomas University Summer Classic.
The tournament, held on July 26-27 in Miami Gardens, featured elite high school and travel flag football programs from across South Florida and beyond.
The varsity team went 6-0 in the record, starting with pool play, with victories against RoyalT out of Lake Worth (13-6) and a dominating shutout against Bottoms Best from Miami (33-0), securing the third seed for the elimination rounds.
As the competition continued, Summer Storm beat the Lady Dawgs from Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School (the defending 2A State Semifinalist) 19-0. In the quarterfinals, they fought hard to edge out a tough CF Strike Force team from Orlando, 20-14. The semifinals saw Summer Storm controlling the game against T3M, who earlier upset #2-ranked “The A” from St. Thomas Aquinas. The Storm rolled to a 20-6 victory, punching their ticket to the Championship Game.
Facing the Hamerheads from Spanish River High School in the finals, Summer Storm showcased their defensive strength, securing a decisive 12-0 victory to clinch the championship.
Quarterback AB Puccio led the offense, throwing 17 touchdowns over six games. Wide receiver Teriyah McFadden shined with numerous spectacular catches, leading the team in touchdown receptions. Additional offensive contributions came from Elayna Garzon, Audrey Haltiwanger, and Sophia Dal Molin, who each added crucial touchdowns. Avery Shah, Elizabeth Garzon, and Ava Kelleher all made an impact on offense.
The defense was equally impressive, anchored by relentless pressure from rushers Katie Diaz and Audrey Haltiwanger. They also had critical interceptions from McFadden, Dal Molin, Elayna Garzon, and Lauren Hall.
Coaches Adam Goldman, Benjamin Goldman, Kraig Zaharia, and Dustin Springer praised their team’s resilience and determination, highlighting their ability to excel.
“Every game pushed us, not just because of the weather, but because we faced truly excellent teams,” Coach Goldman said. “The girls played incredibly well under tough conditions, playing with style and class, and we are extremely proud of them.”
The summer storm prevailed in the Memorial Day Tournament with victories for both Varsity and JV squads and a JV division championship at the Wellington Coast Guard Shootout. Both Varsity and JV teams also secured playoff spots in the competitive Miami Dolphins summer league.
“This victory symbolizes our growth as a program,” Goldman added. “Under Coach Baldwin’s leadership, our affiliated high school team has recorded an impressive 26-4 record over the past two seasons. Our intense summer competition significantly prepares our players for regular-season success, and we look forward to carrying these experiences into the upcoming season.”
Summer Storm will close out its summer at the Palm Beach Shootout on August 16-17.
