Roman Anthony of Marjory Stoneman Douglas Baseball Wins Florida's Gatorade Player of the Year

Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ Roman Anthony was officially named Florida’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

This award recognizes the nation’s most outstanding high school student athletes’ excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary character.

Anthony, who has committed to playing college baseball at The University of Mississippi next season, was the Eagles’ lead-off hitter and starting center fielder. He hit .545 with ten home runs and 40 RBIs. He also stole 19 bases helping the Eagles win four Championships this season.

MSD won the National High School Baseball Invitational Championship featuring the top 16 teams in the country as well as District, Regional and State Championships for the second straight season.

This summer, Anthony will be eligible for the 2022 MLB draft and decide if he wants to go professional or play college baseball and re-enter the draft in a different year. Projected as a first-round pick, Anthony remained focused all year on trying to help his teammates.

“I just try to worry about what is in between the lines and have fun with my friends,” said Anthony. “I want just to win baseball games, so I don’t worry about anything outside the lines, such as social media. I try to get in there, win a game and get out.”
