Marjory Stoneman Douglas officially introduced Shaune Cannon as the new boys varsity basketball coach.
Cannon replaces Teddy Lyons, who resigned after four seasons of coaching Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Cannon expresses gratitude to Athletic Director Al Guzzo for the opportunity and Coach Lyons for his support.
“This was one of the first places I applied for a head coaching job, so for me, it’s like coming home and getting an opportunity close to home because I really try and serve Coral Springs and Parkland as best I can,” Cannon said. “It’s been a place that I have wanted to man, so it feels like I’m coming home.”
Cannon grew up in Connecticut and moved to Coral Springs when he was 20. He coached varsity basketball at Western and Everglades High School and Ramblewood Middle School. Cannon is currently working as a Behavior Tech at Forest Glen Middle School. He also runs Coral Springs Rock United, a travel basketball organization.
The Eagles are coming off a terrific run and have won 37 games in the last two years. One of Cannon’s main goals is to ensure his junior varsity players are ready to go when it’s their time. He hired a strong coaching staff and hopes that he can help with the development of some of the younger players.
