Westglades Middle School is hosting a summer orchestra camp designed to give young musicians a head start before the school year begins. Open to all middle school-aged students—particularly incoming sixth graders from Park Trails, Riverglades, and Heron Heights Elementary Schools—the camp welcomes children ages 10 to 13 who are interested in joining the Westglades Orchestra.
The camp runs from Monday, June 9, through Thursday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at Westglades Middle School. On the final day, students will showcase their new skills in a concert for parents.
No prior musical experience is required, and the school will provide instruments. Throughout the week, campers will learn the fundamentals of string instruments, including violin, viola, cello, and double bass.
The cost of the program is $300.
The Westglades Orchestra Program offers both beginner and advanced ensembles, providing students with regular performance opportunities at the school and throughout the community. Advanced students often perform at Universal Studios and participate in the annual Music Performance Assessment. Some Westglades musicians are selected for the prestigious All-State and All-County orchestras through the Florida Orchestra Association.
