The City of Parkland held its annual State of the City address Wednesday evening, drawing residents for a night of reflection, civic pride, and community connection.
Held at City Hall, Communications Director Todd DeAngelis organized the event, which cost approximately $22,000 and included a 25-minute professionally produced video presentation, refreshments, music, and dessert.
Led by DeAngelis and Mayor Rich Walker, the event included appearances from State Rep. and former Parkland Mayor Christine Hunschofsky, Broward County Commissioner and former Mayor Michael Udine, Former Mayor Bob Marks, former commissioners, City Manager Nancy Morando, staff, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department.
During the event, Ken Webster, a long-time resident and founder of Parkland Buddy Sports, was awarded the Mayor’s Medal of Charitable Service.
The centerpiece of the evening was a video presentation featuring heartfelt commentary from current commission members. The video blended personal reflections with civic milestones, underscoring what makes Parkland a uniquely connected and resilient community.
Beginning with home, growth, and memory themes, the video captured how formative experiences, such as learning to play sports or forming lifelong friendships, are rooted in the Parkland community. Commissioners emphasized the intangible feeling many associate with the city: belonging, neighborly care, and shared pride.
The narrative then shifted to ongoing and future initiatives shaping Parkland’s evolution. Featured projects included the Village at Heron Bay, enhancements to Wedge Preserve Park, and roadway improvements in the Ranches area. City leaders stressed their commitment to preserving Parkland’s charm while advancing infrastructure, public safety, and thoughtful development.
The video concluded with a unifying message: that Parkland’s strength lies in its people, and that the city’s future will continue to be guided by the shared values that have defined it for generations.
