Marjory Stoneman Douglas had three teams this week competing in Regionals in their quest for a State Championship.
The girls’ team lost to Cypress Bay High School, ranked 10th in the state and 12th in the nation, 4-0. MSD finished the season with a 9-7-2 record. After winning six games during the regular season, the Eagles earned a bye in the opening round of Districts and went on to defeat Coral Glades and Spanish River Community High School to capture their eighth straight district championship.
In Regionals, MSD earned the fourth seed and defeated Doral Academy 3-0 before suffering its season-ending loss to Cypress Bay. The team featured 10 seniors: Mickayla Sugrano, Alexa Jourdan, Patty Leiva, Breanna McWilliams, Natalie Block, Ashley Bean, Alaina Alba, Breanna Gordon, Jackie DeStefano, and Emily Rodriguez.
The boys’ team also fell to Cypress Bay High School, the top-ranked team in the country, 5-1.  MSD entered the postseason ranked 22nd nationally and posted a phenomenal regular season, including nine wins. The Eagles earned the top seed in the District Tournament, received a first-round bye, and then defeated Western High School 6-1 and Coral Glades 2-1 in overtime to win the district title.
In Regionals, the fourth-seeded Eagles edged Miami Palmetto Senior High School 3-2 before dropping just their second game of the season in the semifinal round. MSD closed the year with an impressive 12-2-2 record. The boys’ senior class included Alessandro Rocha, Juan Batista, Renato Alcoforado, Ethan Winter, Aquiles Yibirin, Anthony Carnuccio, and Liam Ulinski.
After knocking off Park Vista Community High School six days ago in the District Final, the girls’ basketball team had a rematch against the Cobras to begin Regional Play. This time, however, the Eagles were unable to continue their incredible season, falling in the opening round of Regionals to end their postseason run.
MSD finishes the year with a 14-6 record, marking the program’s most wins since the 2018 season. The team featured three seniors who will be graduating this year — Izzie Feldman, Maddie Feldman, and Tessa Morales.
