The five-time defending state champions opened their regular season in dominant fashion, posting a perfect 3-0 record to begin the year.
The Eagles started the week on the road with a gritty 3-2 victory over Monsignor Pace High School. Cade Raley set the tone early, drawing a leadoff walk and eventually scoring on a bases-loaded walk from Jackson Taylor. Lorenzo Laurel and Taylor each delivered home runs to power the offense.
Reid Dadic got the start, pitching four strong innings while allowing just one run. Carter McGuinn followed with two solid innings of relief, surrendering only one run. Ben Bianchi ran into trouble in the seventh but escaped the jam with a clutch strikeout and flyout with two runners on to secure the win.
MSD returned home the next day for their home opener, where Gio Rojas made his first start of the season. The left-hander was sharp, striking out eight over four innings while allowing just one unearned run.
The Eagles were held scoreless through six innings before delivering late-game heroics. Ander Elorriaga led off the seventh with his second double of the night, and Abraham Halaoui — running as a pinch runner — came around to score on a bases-loaded walk from Raley. After a batter was retired and another was picked off, MSD executed a double steal, and Brody Gargiulo scored the winning run on an error to secure the walk-off victory. Tyler Stertzbach struck out two in a hitless inning, while Jacob Hayes earned the win with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
The Eagles capped the week with a dominant 10-1 win over Palmer Trinity High School. Joshua Jakubowitz allowed one run in the first inning but settled in to throw three strong frames before handing the ball to McGuinn.
Raley again delivered in a key moment, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the second to tie the game. MSD then erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Randy Ruiz contributed an RBI single, Rizzo drove in two runs, and Angel Rodriguez provided the biggest swing of the game with a grand slam. Ruiz later added a home run in the fifth, while  Zach Weiselberg and Jaxson Cirella closed things out with clean innings on the mound.
MSD will be back in action on Tuesday, February 17 against West Orange High School at 6 p.m. before closing the week with games against Neumann and Christopher Columbus High School.
