The Westglades Middle School Orchestra has made a lasting impression on the music scene with its performance at the Musical Performance Assessment (MPA) at Plantation High School.
Held in February, the Westglades Orchestra ensemble, directed by Kalyn Todd, made history not only by its first-time attendance but by the superb performance of the students.
Orchestra students earned an overall superior rating at the MPAs, including two superior ratings by two state adjudicators—an excellent rating from the third stage adjudicator; and a superior rating in sight-reading.
Each year, music programs from Westglades perform at the MPAs.
“MPA is essentially the ‘state test’ in which grades are based upon difficulty and performance. Three state adjudicators give precise feedback as they listen and give each school music group a final rating,” explained Todd.
Along with the orchestra, the band program, led by Christian Gordon and Todd, also received high accolades at the MPAs.
