Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s boys and girls track and field team competed in the District Tournament on Friday, highlighted by wins from Elle Speas and Kyanne Meredith in the pole vault.
The girls finished third, competing against J.P. Taravella, Coral Springs High School, Fort Lauderdale, Piper, Coral Glades, Monarch, and Deerfield Beach.
Nina Duggan finished second in the long jump, while Jeannelle Jonca finished as the runner-up in the 200 meters. Grisette, Jeannelle Jonca, and Sparta Koumoutsaki all finished third in their respective events, with Olympia Koumoutsaki and Taylor Stauss placing fourth. They also had their 4 x 100 relay place fourth with Neima Bien-Aime, Nina Duggan, Naomi Grissette, and Samara Osouna. Arianna Abreu, Olivia Zeff, Bianca Gonzalez, and Cecilia Gago placed fifth in the 4 x 400 meters, and Arianna Abreu, Olivia Zeff, Riley Mccleary, and Bianca Gonzalez placed fifth in the 4 x 800 relay.
Michele Hirn, Abreu, Grace MacKenzie, Salome Bandres, Sparta Koumoutsaki, Grissette, Riley Anders, Nina Duggan, Kennedy Coleman, Anikanylah Michel, and Samara Osouna picked up points.
The boys finished fifth overall, led by Emery Jackson, finishing second in the high jump, and James Bronzwaig placed third in the Discus and javelin. All three relay teams placed in the top six, with Brandon Allman, Krish Sule, Bryson Gittens, and Connor Stallings in fifth in the 4 x 100 relay.
Andres Abreu, Connor Mazzilli, Emery Jackson, Tevye Singh, Andres Abreu, Tevye Singh, Joseph Cardinale, and Noah Ryan placed sixth in relays. Vasean Fairnot, Michael Marhefka, Andres Abreu, Matthew Rosenberg, Cole Spinks, Sahil Sule, and Shivank Joginipalli also picked up points.
