Coming off overtime victories in the District Tournament finals, both the Marjory Stoneman Douglas boys and girls soccer teams are set to compete in regional play.
The girls’ team won just six games during the regular season but caught fire in the postseason, defeating Coral Glades 7–0 before edging Spanish River Community High School 2–1 in the district final. That run earned the Eagles the No. 4 seed in the regional bracket.
Douglas will face Doral Academy in the first round. The Firebirds finished the season 10–9–1 and advanced to the district final after defeating Hialeah Gardens High School, before falling 4–1 to Cypress Bay High School.
The winner of that matchup will advance to play either Cypress Bay or Goleman High School. On the opposite side of the bracket, Wellington will face Coral Reef High School, while Palmetto takes on Spanish River Community High School.
The boys’ team also earned the No. 4 seed in regionals after dominant district wins over J.P. Taravella, 6–1, and Coral Glades, 2–1. The Eagles finished the season 11–1–2 and will open regional play against Miami Palmetto Senior High School on Friday, February 6, at 5 p.m. The Panthers went 11–2–3 during the regular season but were upset by Coral Reef High School in district play.
The winner of that game will face either Cypress Bay or Wellington High School in the next round. The other side of the boys’ bracket features matchups between Doral Academy and Coral Reef, as well as Coral Glades and Christopher Columbus High School.
