On Monday night, Parkland City Commissioners Ken Cutler and Bob Mayersohn were honored for their eight years of service during a ceremony at Parkland City Hall.
Due to term limits, the two commissioners are stepping down, and friends, colleagues, and several elected officials gathered to celebrate their dedication with speeches and proclamations.
Commissioner Bob Mayersohn, first elected in 2016, was recognized for his work with the Parkland Buddy Sports Program, which he helped launch in 2002, and for his leadership as president of the Broward League of Cities. He played a crucial role in community services, advocating for special needs youth and municipal issues across Broward County.
Commissioner Ken Cutler, also elected in 2016, was celebrated for his efforts to expand the Parkland Library and work with the Parkland Historical Society. His research on the city’s history and involvement in historical preservation left a lasting impact on the community.
Cutler reflected on his eight years of service and expressed deep gratitude to his family, colleagues, city staff, and the community. He highlighted key accomplishments, including infrastructure projects and purchasing the Heron Bay golf course, while acknowledging the city’s challenges during his tenure, such as the Marjory Stoneman Douglas tragedy and the Covid pandemic.
Theresa Brier, district director for Congressman Jared Moskowitz, presented both commissioners with a Congressional Record and noted their flags will fly over the Capitol in honor of their service. “You have left an indelible mark on the community,” she said.
State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky and State Sen. Tina Polsky praised the commissioners for their leadership through challenging times, including the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine declared October 28 “Bob Mayersohn and “Ken Cutler Appreciation Day” in honoring their contributions to the city and their enduring legacies of public service.
