The Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team opened up Regional Play on Tuesday with a 5-1 win over South Dade High School.
Jayden Dubanewicz pitched one of his best games of the season, taking a perfect game into the sixth inning. He allowed only two hits and struck out eight to earn the win.
Rylan Lujo opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first. The Eagles went quietly in the second but responded with four runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Niko Benestad. Gio Rojas and Erick Torres also had RBI hits.
The Eagles, who have won the last three State and National Champions, faced some advisory during the regular season with some injuries but still managed to win 19 games. They then won a District Title after beating Monarch and Boca Raton Community High School before their Regional Quarterfinal game.
Next, the Eagles will play Boca Raton again in the Regional Semifinals after the Bobcats beat fourth-seeded Braddock High School 7-4. Boca Raton is 20-8 this year and have only one loss in their last eight games.
