The Florida Department of Transportation will host two public meetings on June 25 to provide updates on the SW 10th Street Connector Project, a major transportation initiative aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and regional connectivity in northern Broward County.
The project spans SW 10th Street from the Sawgrass Expressway to Interstate 95 and includes improvements along I-95 from north of Sample Road to SW 18th Street, as well as upgrades to the NW/NE 48th Street bridge and the Hillsboro Boulevard and SW 10th Street interchanges.
FDOT officials said the meetings will mark a significant milestone as the project moves from the design phase into early construction activities.
The first phase of work, scheduled to begin in late summer 2026, includes replacing the NW/NE 48th Street bridge over I-95 and constructing sound barrier walls along the south side of SW 10th Street between SW 30th Avenue and SW 24th Avenue. Major construction is expected to begin in summer 2027 and continue through 2032.
According to FDOT, the SW 10th Street corridor has long served as a critical east-west connection between the Sawgrass Expressway and I-95, yet it remains a missing link in South Florida’s transportation network. The corridor currently faces congestion, safety concerns, and operational challenges caused by competing local and regional traffic demands.
The project is part of Florida’s Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative, which advances transportation projects aimed at reducing congestion, improving safety and strengthening the state’s transportation system.
A key feature of the project is the creation of two separate roadway systems along SW 10th Street. New connector lanes will serve regional traffic traveling between the Sawgrass Expressway and I-95, while a reconstructed local roadway will provide improved access for nearby neighborhoods.
The local corridor will include a 12-foot shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. Additional improvements include upgrades to the I-95 interchanges at SW 10th Street and Hillsboro Boulevard, expansion of the I-95 Express Lanes from one to two continuous lanes in each direction, reconstruction of the NW/NE 48th Street bridge, and roadway, drainage and safety improvements throughout the corridor.
FDOT estimates the total cost of the project at approximately $1.3 billion.
The in-person open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, at the Johnny L. Tigner Community Center, 435 SW 2nd St. in Deerfield Beach. The event will feature an informal format, allowing attendees to review project plans and speak one-on-one with FDOT staff and consultants.
A virtual public meeting will be held earlier that day from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. The meeting will include a presentation and opportunities for public questions and comments. A recording of the virtual session will be posted afterward.
