Marjory Stoneman Douglas Athletes Earn All-County Honors Following Dominant Spring Season 4

Marjory Stoneman Douglas capped off another outstanding spring sports season with numerous student-athletes earning All-County recognition across several sports.

The baseball team, which won a historic sixth consecutive state championship, was led by Player of the Year Gio Rojas. The left-handed pitcher went 11-1 with a 0.58 ERA and threw 6.2 shutout innings in the state championship game against the nation’s top-ranked team. Rojas also hit .312 with five home runs and 22 RBIs.

Randy Ruiz, Cade Raley and Jake Rizzo were all selected to the First Team. Ruiz batted .303 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs. Raley hit .301 from the leadoff spot with two home runs, including a grand slam, along with six doubles and 18 RBIs. Rizzo batted .436 with six home runs.

Jackson Taylor, Reid Dadic and Lorenzo Laurel earned Second Team honors. Taylor delivered the game-winning hit in the state semifinals, while Dadic went 5-0 on the mound and hit .318 with three home runs. Tyler Stertzbach was selected to the Third Team after earning the win in the state semifinals against Haggerty High School.

The softball team was represented by First Team selections Myah Boleen and Kaitlin Enright. Boleen had a dominant season, hitting four home runs, driving in 30 RBIs, adding 11 doubles and batting .435. Enright hit over .500 with five doubles, five triples and 27 RBIs while also winning nine games in the circle with a 3.32 ERA. Maya Korenge was named to the Third Team after batting .378 with seven RBIs.

The flag football team reached the regional final and had three First Team selections. A.B. Puccio threw for 3,139 yards and 55 touchdowns while adding 200 rushing yards and a rushing score. Audrey Haltiwanger caught 12 touchdown passes and finished with 900 receiving yards and also had eight interceptions on defense. Katie Diaz recorded 52 tackles, including 31 sacks.

Courtney Heymach made a successful return to the field and earned Second Team honors after catching eight touchdown passes and totaling 524 receiving yards. She was joined on the Second Team by Ava Kelleher, Elayna Garzon and Mickayla Sugrano. Kelleher scored four touchdowns. Garzon also led team with 73 catches and had seven touchdowns and 5 interceptions

Caitlin Taylor was selected to the Third Team after 61 catches for 486 yards and seven touchdowns on offense along with 23 pass deflections and four punt blocks. Sugrano also had 10 interceptions and 69 flags pulled with Alina Caravello being named Honorable mention after 49 flags pulled.

The girls lacrosse team featured three First Team selections in Chloe Resnik, Aubrey Kasen and Marissa Gallagher. Resnik led the team with 77 goals, while Kasen added 51. Gallagher made 193 saves in goal. Patricia Pahng and Sammy Shortz were named to the Second Team. Phang scored 19 goals and added 25 assists, while Shortz recorded 61 ground balls.

Dhea Bagirthan was the lone tennis player selected to the First Team after reaching the state finals. In water polo, Benjamin Ruytenbeek earned First Team honors after scoring 112 goals for the boys team, while Sadie Tietensor scored 103 goals and was selected to the First Team for the girls team.

Christian Nichols, Sienna Grayeli and Bella Schubow were named to the Second Team, while Sydney Larson received Honorable Mention recognition. Nichols helped the boys’ team win eight matches and capture a district championship, finishing with a team-high 54 victories. Grayeli and Schubow each won championships for the girls team and finished with 66 and 25 victories, respectively, as the Eagles went 13-5 this season.
