Thanks again to his advocacy during the latest legislative session, the Florida League of Cities recognized Parkland Vice Mayor Bob Mayersohn with the 2021 Home Rule Hero awards.
This honor recognizes their efforts in promoting the voice of Parkland during the most recent legislative session.
As a Parkland resident for the past 25 years, Mayersohn has been involved in a wide variety of community initiatives and activities. In 2020, he was also recognized as a Florida League of Cities-Home Rule Hero and received the Community Care Plan Non-Profit Broward 211 Inaugural Excellence Award.
“I am honored to be recognized by the Florida League of Cities as a Home Rule Hero,” said Mayersohn. “Protecting Home Rule is one of the most important things for local elected officials. It’s our opportunity to advocate for our residents- to ensure their voices are heard in dealing with local issues.”
Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems with local solutions with minimal state interference. The 2021 Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and nonelected, who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue.
Mayersohn has served as a Parkland City Commissioner since November 2016 and has served as Vice Mayor since 2019.
Before being elected to the City Commission, his involvement in the City of Parkland included serving as Chair (2014-2016) and member (2103-2014) of the City’s Education Advisory Board and member of the City’s Planning & Zoning Advisory Board (2008-2013).
Earlier this month, Mayersohn was elected to serve as the 2nd vice president of the Florida League of Cities.

They engaged with legislators, shared their stories, and made their voices heard, and it made a difference.”
“On behalf of the League and its legislative team, it’s my sincere honor to recognize this year’s award recipients and thank them for their service.”
