Khalil Herbert Records 1st Career NFL Touchdown for Chicago Bears

Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas running back Khalil Herbert not only made his first NFL start Sunday, but he also scored his first touchdown.

Herbert ran the ball 19 times for 97 yards scoring his first career touchdown. He also caught two passes for 15 yards keeping the Bears within striking distance before falling to the Green Bay Packers 24-14.

“I prepare the same way if I’m the starter or not,” Herbert said. ‘The guys did a great job of getting me ready these last two weeks. I come in with the same mindset every day.”

Through three games this season, the Coral Springs native now has 193 rushing yards after taking over as the starter after injuries to multiple Bears’ running backs.

Herbert previously played for MSD in 2013-2014 and ran for nearly 1,000 yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, and another 264 yards through the air as a junior. He played his senior season for American Heritage School before playing for the University of Kansas from 2016-2019 and then as a graduate student with Virginia Tech in 2020.

Up next, Herbert and the Bears head to Tampa Bay to face the reigning Super Bowl Champions in the Buccaneers on Sunday, October 25 at 4:25 p.m.
