Parkland resident and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Jianna Bresset, 15, is earning recognition in South Florida’s art community after her work was featured and auctioned at the ArtServe Impact Awards Gala.
The sold-out event celebrates individuals shaping Broward County’s cultural landscape. Bresset was among the youngest artists represented.
She creates art across multiple media, including acrylics, charcoal, ceramics, and sketching. Her pieces often explore themes of emotion, identity, and human connection, favoring expression and feeling over technical perfection.
One of her featured works, Perspective, examines how light and shadow define the human face. Instead of traditional materials, Bresset used charred wood from a campfire to create the portrait, allowing the burnt medium to form deep shadows and textured lines.
Another piece, Unfinished, reflects her interest in ambiguity and imperfection. While the work appears complete from a distance, closer inspection reveals fragmented elements, floating flowers, exposed background areas, and a single fully formed vase. The contrast encourages viewers to question whether anything is ever truly complete.
Art has been a constant in Bresset’s life. While she has not decided whether to pursue it professionally, she said it will always remain important to her.
“I always want art in my life,” she said.
